Why is it that the Government will spend R100m on prisons for the year and not increase teachers salaries.?

Tachers are the paople that will teach your child to read and write,teach them right and wrong and etc.We have so many unemployed people in our country,but you have to pay for your education and any skill that you want.In prison goverment provide all these neccesary tools at the taxpayers cost.Why can't they do the same for the unemployed.Advertising to get training fora job at a low cost,but how will you pay for this if you are unemployed?

It won't change until lock up happy America wakes up...We got more people in prison and for longer than any two 1st world nations together..It speaks of our society...saying something is wrong in the way we live.

The purbs are out numbering the teachers. I want them locked up, but they should not be able to go in there and get an education for free. I hate that i have to feed, clothe and educate the sexual predators! But i sure don't want them out any sooner, so build those prisons. They just need to make it less comfortable for the inmates so they don't want to go back to the 3 hots and a cot.

There are more criminals than teachers. If they scrapped Hollywood we could spend less on prisons and more on teachers. Glorify violence and crime and guess what? - you get more criminals.

one of the democratic presidential candidates wants mandatory minimum wage for teachers starting at 40,000 per year. we will see how that goes. and there are educational programs free of charge out there now.

When you elected to have & raise a child, you made that human being your responsibility to raise, nuture, & show how to act properly in this world.
Teachers are only there to educate your kids, according to the what the law stipulates they can, nothing further. They are not there to wet nurse your child, while you are off making money, spending money, sleeping, or whatever it is you do.

I see that your teachers taught you well in spelling. Those paople do deserve a raise! Why should government be involved in Education in the first place? they hve done a terrible job managing the money. why? because government was never intended to run things like educcation or health care. These things should be run at state and local levels. At no time in history have we put more money into education and got such poor results. I have a solution for prisons as well no more tv rooms, no more state of the art facilities. give them the bare minimum to exist while they are there maybe they will think twice before commiting that crime again.

having to lock up a violent offender is a more immediate problem we can resolve (at least in the short term) than how much money teachers can be paid.
the second issue is in regards to teacher qualifications. with the rise of pedophile teachers being caught, i'm sure no one is complaining that we need to do a better job of our hiring practices first, then worry about giving those hired a raise.
the third issue has to do with simple results: most of our kids are getting a good education. our national test results still do not compete with other nations. we need a better way to identify and get rid of incompetent "teachers" (because currently, most of them are members of unions that make it close to impossible to fire incompetent persons, sometimes even for dangerous persons.), criminals don't have a union to keep them on the streets.
