Computer Science Jobs?

I'm a Senior in high school and I'm thinking about majoring in computer science. I'm decent with computers but have never messed around with programming. I'm also very good at math which, from what I've read, is definitely helpful in the computer sciece field. What kind of jobs are there for Computer Science majors? With that very small description I gave of myself do you think Computer Science would be a good choice for me? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Computer Science major - that was me. I loved it for the programming and math.

Since you enjoy math, programming should be a very interesting breeze for you. There are many jobs available to a person with this type of degree in the private sector (big and small companies), as well as with government agencies. Of course, as you know, computers have permeated almost every aspect of society.

Computer Science is mainly about design and development of software programs. There are many areas of applications from embedded systems to graphical programs, from client/server web apps to database management. The languages vary from C, C++ to scripting such as PERL or Python. I've been a CS for twenty plus years using C, C++ in Linux and Windows. Never bored, always challenging. If you like to work your brain and and can solve problems, this is an awesome field. A good math background will serve you well.

Even if you never had programming experience before, don't sweat it. Intro programming classes are designed to teach students who had never touched a programming language before plus since you're good at math, you'll do just fine in the intro courses.

Some of the jobs for Computer Science Majors are Software Engineers, Systems Analyst, LAN, and System Administrator some require teamwork while others require only one person to finish the job.

With the description that you gave out, you'll survive Computer Science (high school students should take plenty of math and science (between 3 to 4 years) and pass them all to prepare for Computer Science), but the will to continue on with that major is up to you.
