I want to join the US Navy ... any good jobs related to engineering, drafting, science? rcome?

I am going to Meps next week, i don't want to get screwed and leave without a job, i like math, and science, i will go to school to get a BA on Civil Engineering ... any good jobs related to that as an enlisted job?? or maybe a job related to science and math?? my ASVAB score is 85.

I enjoy traveling and stuff, i don't mind being on a ship or on base, it really doesn't matter. if i get to visit other countries even better.

Seabees, Civil Engineer Corps, Nuclear Engineering, etc...

You're right, you don't want to leave without a job. Then you get to go be a deck seaman. Have you considered the Seabees? It's the Navy's combat construction battalion. I believe their motto is, "We Build, We Fight."

There are different types of engineering in the Navy.

The SeaBees (Construction Battalions) have many rates available. They work on construction projects, all land based.

Engineers in the Navy are shipboard, operating and maintaining propulsion and auxilliary equipment. That will get you a basic understanding of engineering principles.

I was an engineer (machinist mate) for five years active duty and over fourteen years in the reserves. I also have a couple of friends who were ship engineers, one of whom is studying civil engineering in college right now.

try sonar or radar tech

the best job is to try for the "nuclear" program but you will have to take a seperate aptitude test for it and the lower your asvab score is the higher you have to score on the "nuke test" to get into that program. the lowest asvab they accept is 76 or 78 but even with an 85 you would have to do pretty well on the second test to get in. (hint, calculus, algebra 2, trigonometry). work on improving your asvab score above 90 and then see a recruiter about the nuke test.
