Jobs with a computer science degree?

i am looking to get a degree in computer science because i enjoy working with computers. what kinds of jobs could i get with this degree.

also, could you describe what i would be doing?

One of the things I love about a computer science degree is you can do many different things. There is little point in programming for its own sake. You focus on various problems. In the last 20 years I have taught high school programming, written software for controlling jets, graphic arts (think Photoshop), computer aided design, 911 systems and monitoring computer networks. If I ever get bored, I can look around and find something else to work with.

In the process I have been able to work in a variety of settings: as the nerd hiding in a cube where they slipped pizza and specs under the door, as a team leader, manager, VP. On some teams I met with customers to design systems that others implemented. In these jobs I was traveling and constantly in meetings. I had to become an expert in our market in addition to the computer science aspects. In other positions I simply wrote code and the market was irrelevant to my function.

My favorite position has been managing small groups solving hard problems. We touch base constantly to kick around ideas. I spend 25-35% of my time actually writing code.

In short, you can do a wide variety of things with a computer science degree. Most colleges require a minor so think about what else you want to do. Think about it the other way around, too. You could get a degree in another field and take computer science classes as electives.

I have a two year computer science degree. I work in an elementary school. I help teachers with some software, fix hardware and some networking. I like my job because I only work 200 days out of the year, get all the holidays off, and I am off every weekend. I am also in a relaxed atmosphere where I can dress up on mixed up day and I get to play with the kids.

OMG the list is endless! You could do everything from programming to some engineering type work depending on what classes you took. I would highly recommend Computer Engineering to open up the doors more for yourself. Engineering is a job that will never go out of style and America need technical degreed people.
