I have a B.S. in Biology, and I want to go back, but am unsure of which direction to take?

I don't want to teach. I don't want to do sales. I NEED a career. I have a great job right now, but I've worked my way up. If something should happen to this small company I work for (because there's so much competion in this field), I'd have to start from the bottom...in a science lab doing research or monotonous wet chemistry.

What is a great, stable field I can look into for a long-lasting career? I've always liked pediatric nursing or physical therapy. I can't afford to go to school full time, so I'm looking for something I can get in 2 or 3 years.

Any suggestions?

If you have a degree in biology then you most likely have all the prerequisites for any health care field that interests you. Before you make your decision try job shadowing some different areas like an RN in a pediatric ward or a physical therapist. Either field has an excellent outlook. Nursing is probably your best bet for going part time. There are on line programs to get a nursing degree. Have you considered Physicians Assistant, Ultra Sonographer, Occupational Therapist, or Respiratory Therapist? These are more careers that are in demand.

Since you have a BS rather then go backward in the degree level (nursing, ultrasound, respiratory can all be associate degrees) go for your master degree in OT, PT, Speech Therapy or PA. Good luck.

Nearly all PT programs are in full time student day format. There is usually no choice to do it part time...even if there was that choice, it would take you about 12 years (since it is a graduate level program).

Nursing is a program that can be completed on a part-time basis...depending on the school. Many can still be completed as an associate's level degree. If you hope to specialize, however, I am not sure if you will need to eventually complete the BS?

However, it sounds like nursing might be more condusive to your educational needs.

Your other career choice could be a physical therapy assistant. This is also available as a part-time program as an associates degree...however the pay is less and you would hit your ceiling very quickly.
