What should I do after Public Affairs? |
I am currently in a Public Affairs unit in the National Guard as a print journalist. I am thinking about maybe moving on to another unit and job as there is very little opportunity for promotion in my current unit, but I can't think of anything else I would want to do. Obviously, I am fond of writing and photography, but I am not a good enough artist to go into a 25M (graphic artist) slot - I'm not sure if we have any in our state anyhow - and we have no combat camera in our state so thats not an option either. I am majoring in Environmental Science and am half way to my bachelors right now. I know this sounds crazy, considering I said I'm not a PT stud, but I've actually sort of half considered going officer to become a blackhawk pilot. What would that take? Would it even be possible for someone who passes the PT test at 200 points? Why not try to become an Army Warrant Officer to fly helos? If you can't stay as a print journalist (because of no promotion opportunity) & no combat camera available, try going Intel to edit & write reports, look at imagery, etc. (plus I think they have an SRB, at least for active duty they did). Good luck to you from a retired Navy Journalist! Have you considered transfering to a similar department in a different branch of the military? The Army and Navy Public Affairs offices have to be huge- so you might not be quite so stuck. From what I've heard, you might have to retake basic doing that, but if it helps you get ahead... Make a mint... do Human resources. This is not about looking after the interests of employees but about helping businesses avoid being sued by increasingly litigious employees |
