Better job offer, can I quit first, does it look bad?

I just got this job (this month) in subject I am only tangentially interested in. I noticed today down the street a new store was opening and looking for help (in exactly the field I am interested in).
The thing is I have a Masters degree (actually 2) and basically most of what I am doing at the first job is retail sales (with demanding rude customers) and my boss is great and co workers are all nice but the assistant manager is the biggest ***** ever. He is constantly rolling his eyes if I ask him a question, he never says please or thank you but barks orders to me like "go get me this," he never praises anyone,etc. Also he throws books, objects around when he gets mad (which is always) which although is not really enough to hurt you is violent and I find it a very unhappy work environment (due mostly to him) Also the fact that this is a total dead end job (not my field at all) is depressing.

So can I apply for the new job? Will the new job not like the fact that I gave up?

People come and go at jobs. You are providing them a service by working and they are returning that with payment. Don't stay in a position and not advance yourself just so your employer won't "feel bad." It's your life - take the initiative and do what's in YOUR best interest. As long as you try to leave while in good standing (because you don't want to burn bridges), it's totally natural to quit a job if it is not meeting your needs - as someone else said, that's life!

Of course you can apply for the new job. That is life. But, to keep from looking bad, be sure to give a notice before leaving your current one.
Apply for the job and during the interview, tell them that you will need two week's notice for your old job.
A trait I would value in a person is people skills. If you quit your job just because of conflicts/obstacles, the next job will likely have the same problems. Learn the lesson first of handling people. Education is nothing without people skills. Good luck.
