Is Adding Regular Exercise going to be an Overload on my body?

I have a hectic schedule. I have a part-time job, I volunteer, I have a full college schedule, I have to manage my little sisters (take them to school and drop them off), My sleep schedule is irregular, I have an anxiety disorder, I have to drive around and do errands all the time, and I'm usually stressed out alot.

I really need to add cardiovascular exercise about 4 times a week for about 30 or 40 minutes. My fear is that with everything already going on that's running my body ragged, that running will just add to a heart-problem or exhaustion. Would adding it be advisable or not?

Definitely do it. Your body might be stressed for a bit but keep doing it your body is going to love you after it. Maybe start with 2xs a week then the next week 3xs and then the next week 4xs. Make sure you eat lean protien so you can burn the fat quickly.

Are you over age 40? Do you have reason to think you have a heart condition? Are you obese? If not, then exercise won't hurt. Buy Prevention or Walking Magazine if you want to learn how to exercise and start slowly. You don't need to run, btw, you can just walk. Whether you run or walk a mile, it all burns the same calories, just running a mile takes less time.

Exercise will help you with your anxiety disorder, by the way, and it will probably help with sleeping better at night.

You might also want to consider dropping some things. Do you really need to volunteer? Why? Why do you have a part-time job? Unless you absolutely MUST have money, drop it. You should concentrate on your studies. If you have to drive your little sisters to school, can you get together with a neighbor and switch off each week, so that you take your sisters and their kids one week, and they take all the kids the next week? Can you combine errands so it all gets done at one time? Can you talk to your parents so there is less pressure on you?

Taking time to take care of yourself will not hurt your health...in fact you may find that exercise will improve your sleeping habits, decrease your anxiety level, and improve your metabolism.

Exercise at a level you are comfortable at. High intensity exercise will probably be too much, if you are feeling tired do exercise which gives you more energy until you have enough energy to do harder exercise. Light walking, tai chi, light resistance can all help you get more energy and give you the benefits of exercise.

Pushing through an exercise session when you are exhausted can lead to serious health issues which can lead to weight gain. If you feel energetic exercise, if not just moving may help you be healthier and give you more energy.
