Nurse having problems with dying people? |
I麓m working as nurse and loving my job, but everytime someone dies in front of me and that belongs to my job, I麓m nearly going insane. My heart is going faster and faster, I cant breathe and so on. I dont want to give up my job what can i do to solve my problem with seeing people die, and knowing i cant to anything ? The simple answer to this is acceptance. You, as a nurse, are there to help facilitate these transitions. If you are unable to facilitate these changes, then transfer to a different unit; you can not beat yourself up because you can't help. Remember, you have a very important role in these patients lives. Helping them heal, or at least making them comfortable untill the end eventually comes. There is no need to actually give up your job, transfering between units is as simple as a phone call to your supervisor. But a simple word of advice: Accept it. Even if they are close to you, or you have worked with them for a long time, you have to accept, as a medical facilitator, that death is inevitable for everyone. Once accepted, you can at least work past the issue of death. Just remember, as a nurse, at least try your best to help them in this hard time :) maybe you should try to work in an area where the situations are less severe, maybe in the nursery or the womens center. There are many places you can continue to do your much appreciated work, maybe you need a break from the stress, and try to find out why it is having this much of an impact on you. Look into other areas of the hospital. |
