Becoming a Nurse??

Why do people choose to become nurses? Clearly they do a fantastic job and i am not criticising them but I am just curious as to why a person wants to be nurse when lets face it the hours are cr*p, and the pay is cr*ap, and their job is highly under-rated!!

I basically ask because I notice that there is still a fair amount of people who want to become a nurse despite no guarantee of a job at the end of it due to NHS cutbacks, and even if they do get a job that tend to be stuck doing lots of paperwork as opposed to helping patients which many would rather do. So what drives someone to want to be a nurse?? Especially when you know that your employer is going to be the NHS. Is it that the course is free and that you get bursuries for training to be nurse that attracts many to the profession??

The course may be free but it's still a struggle to make ends meet when you're a student nurse. I chose nursing because put simply, I wanted to help people, and learn how to do it effectively. I believe that our interactions and relationships with others are the most important achievements in life.Yes, there's a lot of cr*p to deal with and sometimes you wonder if it's worth it, but deep down I know it's what I do best, and you get to meet some fascinating people, despite the paperwork!
they are gods angels
Who Knows Why They Choose To Do It.
I Mean They Don't Do Surgery[Do They?].
Maybe They Don't Want To Do Surgery,Just Want To Help The People.
the world is always gonna need nurses. obviously you are not the "nurse type" people who become nurses do it because they want to help people. taking caring of the sick/elderly. the pay for nurses ISNT that bad, with experience and the right hospital. $30+ an hour. and the satisfaction of knowing your helping someone. i myself had nurse as my second choice. so i went to work as an aide. and ya know i still want to be a nurse. sometimes its more about the satisfaction and the enjoyment of the job. or should i say career. i could ask the same questions of those who sit in an office all day?...WHY?
I'm not an angel, I find that tag rather insulting. We are people.
I chose nursing for several reasons (it was 23 years ago).
I didn't want to work in an office.
I wanted a career.
I wanted a job that wouldn't become obsolete or get replaced by a machine.
I wanted a job that enabled me to continue learning and using my brain.
I believe in the NHS.
I wanted to work in public service (an ideal that no longer exists, I think my generation was the last to have the belief of working for the good of society).
I hope this answers your question.
