When do you ask about salary when applying for jobs? |
I am a nurse, and recently moved to Texas from Connecticut. The starting wages here in Texas are far less than in Connecticut and I am trying to shop around for a position that pays decently and is in an area of nursing that I might enjoy. There are many available jobs in my area, but none that list a salary in thier ads, how do I go about getting the starting rates, without sounding crass? Usually they make you tell them what your salary expectations are. I don't know about nursing, but a lot of job listings say you have to submit salary requirements along with your resume. Definitely don't ask in the first interview. Check out http://data.bls.gov/pdq/outside.jsp?surv... You can find very granular wage data for different positions in your area. To get an idea of how well you will be paid before the interview, check out the building you would be working in. If it's a hole, they will probably pay poorly as well. US Bureau of Labor and Statistics National Wage Survery http://data.bls.gov/pdq/outside.jsp?surv... when you send in your cover letter, mention in the letter how much you would LIKE to start off making, also usually employers like to know how much you were making at your previous job. They might try and compare if you have a good resume |
