What I want to know is, why are 'women's' jobs paid less than 'men's' jobs? |
Jobs that people with masculinized brains are good at are almost paid more than jobs which use the abilities of a feminized brain. Why should this be the case? Shouldn't primary teachers be paid the same as secondary school teachers? Shouldn't nurses be paid the same as doctors? Shouldn't counsellors be paid the same as engineers? After all, most engineers I've known couldn't counsel someone to save their lives, or someone else's! And most secondary school teachers could not surivive teaching primary school. They wouldn't want to. How many doctors could work as a nurse for a year, and not given up from frustration and stress? Jobs that women tend to be good at, involving patience, social skills, communication, care for health and well-being, multi-tasking and a holistic perspective, are almost always underpaid. Shouldn't different skills be recognised as equally valid and renumerated accordingly? Why is Maths more valuable than English? You would have got a ton of replies if you had posted this in Women's Studies. The fallacy in your arguement is you are comparing jobs which need diff skills & qualifications & saying they must be paid equally. Take 2 v similar jobs ....Acting ...here the discrepency btwn what male actors get & what their female counterparts is drastic different...women get paid much less. Why this so? This is inequality. i agree that women are payed less than men, on most cases, and that is terrible but i disagree with the fact that nurses should be payed the same as doctors and that counselors should be payed the same as engineers. doctors and engineers have worked very hard to get payed the amount that they do. a nurse only helps the doctor, he/she doesnt actually do the surgery.. why should they get payed the same amount?? and all of the counselors i met suck.. when it comes to getting help, they are the last people i want to go to. You compare jobs with different qualifications and apply your own gender stereotyping to them. Women engineers and male nurses fit perfectly well in our society. |
