Labor and delivery/nursery nurse help?

I am looking to start college for labor and delivery nurse but i really would rather be a nursery nurse (that works with newborns in nurseries) but i cant find any information on what i need to do or take to become one,so i was wondering if there are any labor and delivery or nursery nurses that could help me and also tell me what the job is like thanks. .also im scared about becoming an rn because im afraid if i do something wrong im so liable can anyone let me know their experiences and if they love doing this

Nursing school will cover the basics of obstetrical nursing, including well baby nursery. I have worked in all areas of obstetrics, most currently doing all areas of inpatient OB nursing, such as labor and delivery, postpartum, antepartum, and well baby nursery.

When you graduate, just apply to jobs in the area you want. However, I don't know of any hospital that employs just in the newborn nursery. The nurses who work in the nurseries are also employed to work on the postpartum units, and they just rotate turns.

Also, don't let your fears get in the way of becoming a Registered Nurse. If you are prudent and safe in your care, then you would unlikely be sued (if this is what you are afraid of). You will always be liable for the care you provide any patient, but again always practice safe care within your scope. This is covered throughout your nursing school career, so you will be prepared to be that RN.

And yes, I love what I do. It has frustrating moments, but I can't think of a job that doesn't.

You can read about my experiences in obstetrical nursing on my blog: http://labornurse.blogspot.com

Good luck!
