24hr live in nurse???

My mo in law has ALS and a live in Nurse, she calls the Nurse upstairs on her cellphone if she wakes up early and needs to use the bathroom, etc.
The Nurse says' she needs her rest too, and has been turning off the phone, so my mo-law can't reach her until 7am, we called the agency and they said we shouldn't expect the Nurse to be up all hours of the night, isn't this her job? She doesn't do anything during the day but sit in her room and watch cable until mother calls.
Anyway, she is gone tomm, and we are using another agency.

is this nurse with your mother in law 24 hours a day or are there 3 nurses who do 8 hour shifts...either way you mil is paying for this service..if one nurse is there 24/7 then yes she is entitled to a sleep period but that doesnt mean she isnt working...she is being paid to help your mil...if the nurses work shifts for your mil then the midnight shift nurse should be sleeping before she comes to work..and that agency is definetely in the wrong Source(s): been a nurse for 22 years and done home care and worked night shift for years
A 24hr live in nurse is a good idea, mabye have two nurses so they could sleep. Your mother in law deserves better nurses.
