Should I become a nurse or a cosmetologist? |
I have grown tired of college, my GPA is 2.7 and has rarely been above a 3.0. Alot of nursing schools want AT LEASE a 3.0 and the majority have an average of 3.7 going in. I would love to do it, but the schooling will take so long and I hate it. I have toyed with the idea of being a cosmetologist/esthetician for awhile now. The only thing preventing me from going is there are no health plans for hairdressers and they make less money. I love working with hair and makeup, it's my dream job. I am motivated primarily by money because I don't want to have debt or struggle in life. What should I do? Try the cosmetology route first. This way you'll get to do what you like most. There's always a lot in the cosmetology industry. You like working with hair and makeup so live your dream. Don't let your dream just be a dream. If you don't stay with it at least you went after it! Going to cosmetology school can also help you pay for nursing school if you decide to change venues. Don't be afraid of wearing different hats. If you should decide to become a nurse, there's a lot to offer in the medical field. Good and caring nurses are always wanted. If you should decide on nursing and know the area you'd like to work in,whether in the hospital or private office, gain the experience then choose to become a travel nurse. Or go back to school and study for nurse anesthetist. There's money to be made so it's up to you how you begin your journey. All the best to you!! Follow your dream. u tell me i ahve the same problem lol Finances should be secondary to happiness, but in many cases these areas are directly related! You should weigh the benefits and fallbacks of each job. Nursing make more money, but it requires more education and often long hours. There will also be a far greater need for nurses due to the aging population (easier to get a job). You may want to look into a field related to nursing that requires less educational commitment. I know that several techincal colleges in my area offer medical tech. certifications. Whatever you do, please don't waste your money on cosmotology school, my sister and sister in law both went and both ended up looking for other jobs because it was impossible to make a decent living! From your description, you should choose to be a cosmetologist. Nursing is not a route for people who don't have a lot of desire to do it. I think you should follow your heart. I don't believe you'll do well in any field you are not happy with, but do think seriously and realistically. Life needs money, if you'll make less money and no health plans in your dream job how will you make ends meet? Isn't there another option for you, is that the only two options you have? Think about bumps they'll pop up tomorrow, how can you handle it, will you be happy doing something everyday for so long? There's other options I am sure all you need to do is think about it. Good Luck and God Bless |
