Can you become a nurse and then a doctor?

I was wondering if this was possible? My mother told me that it would be easier if I take RN first, get a job, and then get an MD. My number one goal is to become a doctor. But it takes about 10 years and during those ten years I would like to work. So, I would like to pursue an education first in nursing so I can work while studying medicine. Is this possible?

You can't build on being a nurse to become a doctor. Doctor's and nurses functions are very different. I would suggest you look into becoming a Nurse Practitioner. That's a career you can work your way up to.

I would think it would be scholastic suicide to work while in med school.

Sure and what a great idea they now have an associates program ADN associate degree nursing to become an RN
this will take 2 years and after the program you can work as an Registered nurse

But you don't want to, trust me.

It takes about four years to be an RN, on top of the college class time.

RNs don't make squat for money, you are better off working as a janitor and having the hospital pay for you med schooling.

If you wanna be a doctor, don't settle for a lesser position, just don't stop till you get to the top.
Trying to work and get through medical school is a recipe for a nervous breakdown. Medical school is VERY demanding, especially when you enter residency.
