I am considering this career path for myself, I am a little unsure what this job involves but I think that it is where you get to help various people in the community, new mums, older citizens, neglected children etc. Am I correct? Can you please tell me what else is involved and whether or not you enjoy it? How did you get to become one and is there a demand for community nurses? Thank-you
A community nurse can serve at an agency or clinic. There are still parish nurses - they check on the members of a particular church. Some work with not for profit groups or government programs. And there are also school nurses. Most nurses have to have at least a year or more experience in a hospital setting before embarking on other areas of nursing. Hospital nursing exposes you to a variety of patients and disease states along with current treatment. Organizing your day as a hospital nurse hones your critical thinking skills. You need to "think on your feet" in a community setting. Many times you are acting independently and you must protect your license by acting responsibly.
