Marketing Job Writing Sample?

I want to apply for a job i saw being advertised today, the job is in the field of Marketing and they require me to submit a writing sample. What type writing sample should i send them? I'm guessing its not a school or book report they want. please help!

As a former S.V.P. of Marketing who hired a number of people, I can tell you the type of writing sample is not as important as your style of writing. They are most likely looking for your ability to submit a piece without typos or grammatical errors. They will also look for writing that is clear, brief and easy to read. Depending on the type of job, I would suggest writing something that lends itself to that specific position. If it is a sales type position, write a one-page sales letter. If it's a PR type position, write a one-page press release. Whatever you write, make sure to proof and edit and have someone else look over it for you. The same goes for a resume if you send one. When I was hiring for marketing positions, if someone sent a resume with typos, it immediately went in the "no" pile, as I assumed that's how they would write on the job.

Have you written anything lately that you can send to them which is 2-4 pages in length? What industry is this marketing job in? You can write a paper of your research in that industry. Dont send them a book report. They wont even bother reading it.

You can also do a search online for 'writing samples'. The sites will give you ideas what to write on. Just dont put yourself at risk by plagarizing someone else's work.
