Marketing job?

I was just offered a marketing job-and they do a lot of field work going door to door for the first few months. I am nervous about this since they say I should speak to 100 ppl a day and sign up between 5-10 ppl a day. I am paid on comission. Is this a reasonable number? Is it normal to have to enter the marketing field by doing the grunt stuff by having to hit the pavement? Thanks a lot for your imput!

Personally I would avoid commission paid jobs they really are totally unpredictable.

Marketing job...well I would use that term loosely to describe that job - sounds more like a door to door salemen.

Also on another note - watch your safety too with that job - I hope you have a team member working with you to do this.

Yes, this is very typical of that type of job. I, personally, could never work this way. Even if you have been in marketing field before this, this is very typical of marketing/sales positions in any company. Remember too that if you are paid by commissions only, you will probably be considered outside sales and have a 1099 issued rather than a W2. This means that you will not be paying any income taxes or social security taxes on any monies earned. Not all commissions work this way, but most do. If paid by 1099, you will also NOT be eligible for any employee benefits. That would make a huge difference to most people.

A lot of companies tell you that it is a marketing or events job when really it is a pyramid scheme type of job. You will have to pay for what you did not sell. You will be going to communities with stay at home moms or old people and ripping them off or selling the same thing that the elementary school down the way is selling. Most commission jobs, that are good jobs, will give you an allowance. This can be something that you have to pay back over time. Other jobs will pay you for the first 6 months to get your clientele up then you go commission.

Needless to say you are not working for a "job". You will be losing money and not getting any work experience. Double check with the second website below.

i hope these people didnt say they were going to bring you in for training and all you do is drive around and hustle people all day. nevertheless, sounds sketchy and like a pyramid scheme. i found a lot of those places fresh out of college and they sold me pretty well since i really wanted work. but if its not for you, then dont do it. there are so many positions open now that will fit what YOU want. im sure they also pitched "it's all about the law of average, youre bound to get x amount of clients if you approach 100 people a day." its a hustle that isnt worth your time when you could be getting real experience pushing paperwork for a few months, learning the industry, and just keep on moving. good luck.
