What's the definition & the real job desk of a marketing?

I confused, what's the different between PR and marketing job-desk ??

Public Relations is a set of management, supervisory, and technical functions that foster an organization's ability to strategically listen to, appreciate, and respond to those persons whose mutually beneficial relationships with the organization are necessary if it is to achieve its missions and values.
Job Desk-Manage desk accounts by ensuring effective communication with customers as well as monitoring of account sales volume, margin, AR, etc.

Jeni answered 1/2 your question very well but I totally disagree that they are simular.

Sales and marketing is not based on education in the way PR is. PR can be either the prelude to or a post sale function. Mainly administrative in nature as Jeni stated.

In most cases sales and marketing incorporate everything that PR does but NOT the other way around.

PR is never an "outside" (the office) function whereas there are usually both "inside" (on the order desk) and "outside" sales depending on the business.

In car sales for example one might say that the Service Writers in their service department are the PR people while the salesperson in the showroom are BOTH sales and PR.
