What kind of interview questions will be asked for a Marketing/Communications job?

I am a recent college graduate with a degree in Marketing and Communications. I am going in for an interview soon with two companies and I want to know what sort of questions they would ask regarding my education. Would they ask anything specific about what I studied (ie. What are the 4 P's of Marketing), or would it be more about my experience and where I want to go in the future? If so, I might want to brush up on a few things.

here are some questions/guide designed for the hiring dept which may help you prepare for:

> ASK FOR WORK HISTORY - what were the applicant's responsibilities in previous jobs. This will establish your efficiency and skills bec. you are describing actual work experience. But in your case, since you are recently a graduate, you have limited experience so juts show your college credentials and mention your skills/education acquired.

> ASK QUESTIONS BASED ON FACTS LISTED ON THEIR RESUME - like skills you possesses to establish level of proficiency in skills mentioned ex if you say you are good in communication/marketing, they will ask you to elaborate. this establishes your skills

> WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO JOIN THEIR COMPANY? This will show willingness to join the company

> WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPT WORK VALUES FOR YOU? - ex are going the extra mile, honesty, teamwork, etc. to check if your values are aligned to their values

> ASK QUESTIONS WITH PARTICULAR SITUATIONS:
- if you were dealing with a difficult customer, what will you do?
- if you have a difficult co-worker?
- if the boss asks you to do some extra job beyond your job description?

this questions will establish how you will react in different real work situations.

> FINAL QUESTION WILL BE WHAT SALARY YOU EXPECTS, and maybe add what other compensations. This is impt bec. you have a salary in mind and you can mentally check how far off your expectations are vs thier offer.

lastly, just be comfortable and relaxed write down possible questions beforehand so you can think of the answers ahead of time, have a pen and pad ready so you can take notes

it will be a 'personality' interview:
> what are your strengths
> what are your weakness
> how do you handle conflict
> what is your time management style
> are you individual worker or team player
> what makes you the best candidate for this position
> tell us an example when you .... and here can follow range of questions covering everything like relations with customers, friends and family, authorities, boss, etc.
In your case (recent graduate) they may ask some professional questions but i will be surprised if they are very specific. Like, they can ask what courses have you taken, which one was your favorite and why, what artistic talents you have ... if they ask 4P's or how to make pest analysis, i think they will give you a piece of paper and you have to be ready in an hour or so .. but this is very unlikely. Good Luck.

When it comes to questions for new graduates, here are some good examples:

What extracurricular activities were you involved in?

What activities did you enjoy the most?

What classes did you enjoy the most? The least?

Why did you choose your major?

Why did you change majors?

If you could start again, what major would you choose?

Why are you applying for a job in a field other than your major?

What did you learn from your summer jobs?

In what courses did you get the worst grades? Why?

Are your grades a good measure of your ability?

Give me an example of a problem you've had at school and how you solved it.

How does your degree prepare you (a) for a career in [industry] or (b) to excel as a [job title]?

What qualifications do you have beyond academics that qualify you to make a successful transition into business?

Overall, they'll likely ask questions about your career path, your personal goals, and what you think you can offer their company, if hired.

Good luck on your interviews!

In my experience, you won't be quizzed on terms or theories. Your interviewer will be more interested in experience - class projects, extracurricular activities, jobs you've held (even if they don't relate to the position you are interviewing for, it still can show your strong work ethic, reliability and people skills).

Do you have a portfolio of your work? It can be things you did for class, but if you have press releases, brochures, articles, any graphic design projects, business plans, etc that you did for class, definitely bring those in to share. Be sure to print up nice color copies, and bring enough to leave with them.

You want to highlight experiences that will directly relate to the job - coming up with creative ideas and seeing them through, managing projects, working on teams. So definitely start thinking about those experiences and how they will apply to the job you are interviewing for. Even if all your experiences are in a classroom setting, it can still apply.

Also, think of good answers to the "tricky" questions, such as "what is your weakness" (good answer: "I focus on the details too much," "I take on too many projects at once," not "I'm not a good writer"). Good luck!
