After acquiring a Ph.D. in British History, where specifically should I search for tenure-track lecturing jobs

I will have a Ph.D. in British history, specialisng in social history from Britain in the Twentieth Century.

My question is, what next? Should I try and get into a fellowship, or am I ready to join the job market as a candidate for a tenure track
Assistant Professor (a.k.a. Lecturer) position?

If you have not worked yet and have studied right up to PhD, your research habits and interests would probably make you want to stay in the academic field, researching and writing. With your PhD you are qualified to apply for full-time lecturing posts in UK universities. You might like to try part-time first to gain some experience of lecturing and assessing students and take a teaching qualification such as 730 or 740 (don't know why they have to have silly numbers but the courses are very useful). You could then work towards the long term career goal of Chair in History.

Surely Doctor the very subject of your PhD should answer the question for you?

It is very influential, but the numbers them self have to take in some assumptions, that is why they are always revised a few months later.
