Life in Vegas a a resident?

I'm moving to Las Vegas at the end of the month and was wondering if anyone could enlighten me as to the general quality of life or give me any tips/advisce on:
1. Job market
2. 40's night life/dating
3. Crime
4. Housing

Lvgeno, Thanks, that helps...I don't gamble, rarely drink and have no kids so....
I lived in Yuma AZ for 5 years so I think I can handle the heat.

Job market is stable .. as new properties open so do the jobs. They prefer experience in the hotel/casino industry if applying for those jobs.

Dating is different here because people kind of stay to themselves. You will not know your neighbors like anywhere else. Kind of like work .. home and thats it.

Crime isn't too bad considering. Stay away from the bad neighborhoods and should be fine. Police here take fighting crime very seriously .. you break a law and it is like the wild west here.

Housing was hit hard by the downturn .. prices have dropped drastically. Good time to buy or even rent. The further from the strip the better is the best advise.

Food prices are good here. Shop wisely. So many things are open 24/7 you will like that. During the summer months people become night dwellers due to the heat. Electricity is high here. Sunny every day just about .. very little rain. Mild winters and very hot summers. Will take a full year to get acclimated so don't give up on that.

Schools leave a lot to be desired. You will find the strip to be for tourists and not for locals. Find a local casino close to you and take advantage of the give a ways they have for locals ... nice stuff usually. Nothing like that on the strip.

Driving is something else here. Speed limits, traffic signals and signs are just suggestions for most people here.

I have lived in Las Vegas for over 10 years and I can tell you that it is not all about strippers, gambling and sleazy lifestyles.Crime is similar to most big cities, but we have a very transient population. Apartments vary depending on the part of town.. nice places begin at about $900 or more per month, maybe upper $800's. Dating can be hard due to the "Vegas seekers" those trying to live the Vegas myth. Las Vegas has some of the best restaurants in the U.S. It has a lot more to offer like Mt. Charleston with snowboarding and great hiking trails and Red Rock Canyon with beautiful scenic drives, wildflowers, and more. The MGM grand has several good restaurants as well as Mandalay Bay and don't forget about the places off of the strip like Green Valley Resort. It's a beautiful hotel with lots of nice places to eat and party as well. Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville at the Flamingo Hilton is a great place to dance, eat, and sip cool magaritas without having to be trendy or cool to get in.Sports nuts will love the ESPN cafe at the New York New York. Las Vegas is also the only place that you can go from Paris to Italy to New York in one night. So, walk the strip, see the fountains at Bellagio, then breakfast at the poolside cafe at the Wynn. Don't forget to go to Town Square at the south end of the strip. It's like a little town with cobblestone streets, tons of stores, restaurants, a movie theater and more. Enjoy!
