Do I have a chance at a Assistant Marketing Manager Job?

Hello All,

I have a interview Friday for a Assistant Marketing Manager Position. I have a BFA in fashion with 4 yrs of design and 1 yr of Brand Management. I am a specialist in Intimate Apparel because that has been my focus for the past 5 yrs.
I am going up against Business students who have the business skills that I do not. One thing I do have is more work experience, and a strong knowledge of the product while most business students have no idea of the process of fashion.
I am flying out for the interview so thats a good sign I was told but I want to ace this interview but also feel confident that this is a job I can perform. By the way I am very resourceful. I am very good at finding the answer.
How can I stand out?

At this job level most people want confidence, a desire to learn, and someone who has an interest in the company. Be sure to research their products, market and positioning by reading their product info and press releases - basically anything the marketing team would have produced. In the interview adapt to each person you speak to- let them talk a lot if they like to talk, if they are quiet be ready with detailed answers and questions. Not everyone is good at interviewing candidates so be aware of their skills and be positive no matter if they talk over you or not. At the end of the day it's how they feel about you joining their team.

Wear a tight skirt to the interview.

Don't hide the fact that you don't have the business experience. Use your practical experience as a strength. Make sure you have examples ready to speak to regarding how your work experience is relevant to what you think they're looking for. Also, take some materials with you. I like to do a "Qualifications" PowerPoint where I highlight my skills and exactly what contributions I can make. I also include in that a 30/60/90 day plan of how I would spend my time once hired. An example would be: 30 days (time spent training on product knowledge, becoming acquainted with team members) 60 days (competitive research, brand research, needs analysis of team members), 90 days is when you basically hit the ground running "completely" prepared. I print it out and bind it as a leave behind for the hiring manager. Any and EVERYTHING you can do to stand out from the other candidates is important. Wear a business suit and be sure to ask for their business card so that you can send a hard copy thank you letter in the mail.
