What is my job title? (designer/marketing/etc)? |
I am working as a temp for a very large company with a possibility of getting hired. I'm not sure what a fair job title would be. I am in the marketing department, I have access to and use all of the main design software programs (quark, adobe programs etc. and the only other 2 people who have these are titled graphics specialists). I have designed a few things from scratch (I've only worked here about 2 months) but I mostly make updates to their current and existing brochures, flyers, graphics. Some of the other people who are also in our department have me update their charts using adobe illustrator to go into their marketing power point presentations which we print as books. Sometimes they will also have me print and bind these books for them. The majority of my work is design. My temp title is Project Assistant (which is not accurate at all). If my boss wants to hire me what title and salary should I ask for (Des Moines, IA)? First job out of college with BA in art and design. I would either go with Graphic Design Assistant or Junior Graphic Designer or maybe Desktop Publisher as you are doing other works. I wish I could help you on the money but being Canadian I don't know what to expect for somwhere in the states. Here a Junior position would go from about $13-16 an hour. http://desktoppub.about.com/od/employmen... Custodian? This is not intended to exploit or harm minors, be violent, racist, incendiary, or otherwise objectionable, violate federal, state or local law, include profane, obscene, vulgar or sexually explicit language, glorify anorexia, bulimia, or the loss of weight to levels that are clearly unhealthy. This answer is my opinion. You want a title that aptly describes what you do, but be careful about what we call "job title inflation" where your title sounds more important than it is, or doesn't accurately describe what you do. I would think something including the word design would be good (Computer-Aided Designer?) Project Design Coordinator? Hmm, that's the best I got this late in the day. The title marketing assistant is commonly known in the industry as a catch all title meaning you are responsible for everything given to you. The downfall is that the title marketing assistant might actually undermine what you actually do. Therefore, if you are feeling gutsy, marketing project manager or coordinator works best. |
