Are there jobs for expat American lawyers in Thailand?

I am a practicing lawyer doing criminal defense in Chicago. I have family in Thailand and I want to join them very much. I have no sense of the job market yet and have just started exploring. Right now, I am not sure if I should devote myself to learning Thai, picking up additional training in a specific legal field in demand, or try and leverage my law background for a job in a different area. I welcome any feedback, especially from anybody who has already done it.

There is a high demand for someone to assist Americans who have legal problems in Thailand. Study the language, and register with the counsel general at the US Embassy. You should do quite well.
Then you can consider broadining your field into Bus. and Immigration. LUCK. Source(s): Experience,(I was assigned to the US Embassy in Bangkok).
look its not what u know its who u know. dress smart and make connections here. bangkok is not chicago. it needs a total different approach. better than learning thai u should learn golf and get close to some army/police generals on the green.
