Everybody i talk to about florida, says that the jobs are low paying.anyone know if this is true?

i want to know about the job market and pay around winter haven florida.or the areas around there.any info would be helpful.thank you.

I just moved from Florida. It is a right to work state. My last employer had a 52% turnover rate. Raises went out once a year in the ten to twenty five cent per hour range. The employer I had before that was pretty much the same.

Auto, health and homeowner's insurance are outrageously expensive. Housing is also getting to be ridiculously unaffordable.

Without knowing what qualifications/experience you have or what type of employment you are looking for it is hard to give a more specific answer. I had 10 years of experience in my field and made what other people would have considered a decent hourly rate. I was struggling terribly to make it paycheck to paycheck.
I would imagine the jobs pay relatively the same as they do in other markets. I live in rural Iowa. The jobs are very low paying, but so is the cost of living; my 2000+ square foot house only cost $45,000. So if the jobs are low paying, then probably the cost of living is too. Try going to the newspaper web site for Winter Haven and checking out the want ads, apartment/houseing costs, etc.
To some extent, it's true. There are lots of low-paying service jobs in Florida, which pulls down the average wage. There ARE higher-paying professional jobs, though, so there's no reason to be totally discouraged. However, the cost of living in Florida was quite low until the last few years, making it possible to do well on less. Now, with the cost of living rising, it may be a little more difficult to make ends meet. Still, I think it's a better job market than most of the ones I've seen up north. Winter Haven, in particular, doesn't have a lot of big businesses or industries (unless you want to work in Phosphate or Citrus industries), so your income there would generally be considerably lower. You could commute to Orlando, but that commute is getting to take a lot longer than it used to. Overall, I think there are opportunities, but not guarantees. Basically, I think the reality is somewhere between your optimism and the pessimism of your friends.

Generally, though, I think there's a lot more long-term opportunity in Florida, so I'd go for it. Best of luck to you.
