It seems, everywhere wants you to have experience, even if you have a qualification. Any ideas?
Try registering with an agency, that specialises in finding people marketing jobs, or look for v v basic level jobs, however even these will have alot of applicants as, as you say not only do they want the full postgraduate CIM qualification, they also want experience. Some grads for example have done year lomg placement during their undergrad degrees or holiday placements, plus there must be some lucky ppl out there gaining v basic jobs, to move up to the slightly better paid ones. You're at an advantage bing in London, i briefly looked at marketing after quitting teaching, and most jobs i could even find were in London, not in the north where i am!
Its hard work looking for your first foot in the door, all you can do is try the agency and keep on applying for any jobs you see that are at a basic level, look everywhere at your unis careers service, jobcentre, specialist websites for vacancies. Its probs not that ure not a good candidate since you already have the qualification, but that its the sheer amount of graduates at the mo, who already have the postgrad qualifications and a years experience and still cant get jobs either, for one vacancy in marketing i applied for which would take 2yrs experience or the qualifcation, for a v basic marketing admin job, got around 120 applicants i was told! Thus only advice, is do anything to make ureself more employable if youre sure this is the area for u, this may be unpaid voluntary work for charities etc within their marketing depts, many ppl hve to start off in mareting thsi way and other professions such as PR, HR etc. Qualifications are just the start,i agree it isnt fair, but sadly thats the over qualified world we now live in!! godd luck |
