I want to move to Marketing instead of Sales, any advice on how to do this?

I have 6 years experience as a Operations Manager in Retail and 4 years in Sales Account Management. The past 2 years I've been doing sales but with more emphasis on marketing. I really love marketing and I do very well at it.

I increased sales for the region I worked in by 40% over the previous year in sales through some viral marketing plans I developed. For the company I worked at before my current job I developed solid leads that increased sales by 33% in the 8 months I was there.

What should I do to get a job just in marketing and how much should I ask for as an introductory salary? On top of work experience, I attended college where I studied Industrial psychology for 3 years and business admin for 3 years, I still havent recieved a degree but I'm close. I'm about a semester short from a degree. Would this affect my income dramaticaly, I know in sales and management I've put work experience above schooling?

Well I spent 1 year tring to get into the Marketing arena as I'm in sales as well.

I even had loads of great contacts but unfortunately because I was always compeating with Universtiy grads, even for a entry level type of position I wasn't able to break through cause I found out that Marketing is like being a Designer. If you didn't go to school for it then your going to have a tough time getting in. They all suggested that I take some marketing classes at night school to help get me in but I didn't have the money or the time to do that unfortunately.

I am now appling for a Sales and Marketing manager position with a nice sized company but becasue of where they are located (lots of traffic and communiting) and the industry they are not as picky as other firms so I may have a better chance.

So everything sounds good that you have but I would send your resume out to a headhunter and see if you can start at a small boring company first and work your way into the marketing industry that way.

Good luck
Why wouldn't you take all of your exemplary skills and put them to work in your own business? Because of your skills and experience, you could easily break into the $10k or even $20k/mo earnings!
I have a home business, and earnings like that are not unusual, you are paid in direct proportion to the amount of work you do.
I would be happy to show you the way!
If you are open to another stream of income, it is something you could build while still working, or go into full time as soon as you are ready.
