Why is it so hard for an expat 50 year male with an MBA in marketing to get a good job in Singapore? |
motor trade career experience As you would have noticed already, Singapore economy is flat. All new manufacturing activities are in China, India and Thailand. Most trading activities are shared between Singapore and Hong Kong. Motor trade especially is limited by government policies- the COE - certificate of entitlement policy limits the number of automobiles on Singapore roads. So, I am sure that makes you compete with younger, Asian immigrants for the same jobs. Good luck anyway!!! Even a 40+ Singaporean with MBA and many years of experiences is hard to get a job in Singapore in any trade. Age does matters here. The motor trade industry is proliferated by plebians or "ah bengs" as we term it locally. An ah beng with little education can go into this business easily. Like someone said, a 40+ year old Singaporean with MBA would struggle to get a job. As an expat, you are on expat terms and that would represent a bigger outlay for any employer. I'd say look around the region or consider going back to your country.. |
