Just want to know if someone could help me answer a question about travail to China and if I have trouble?

Im from the USA and going to visit Guangzhou in china and My mother told me that her friend visit there and could not come back or had trouble leaving China and was there for about 2 months before thy let him leave for the USA. Just want to know why and I other had the same truble. If I go dont want to lose my job or my life. What are laws for someone in the USA for china.

china is not scary... most people speak english well...
unless you did something suspicious... you won't be kept there...
check out the luggage regulations though... USA's big on that...
Unless you are suspected of doing something illegal (including working or conducting any business there without the proper visa) while you are visiting the country, you will have no problem entering or leaving China with the proper valid passport and visa. Visitors to China (and to any country for that matter) are subject to the law of the country, regardless of their nationality (there are exceptions for diplomats and other officials), so you must abide by all laws there, which is common sense.
i live about 3 hrs away from Gunagzhou (Zhanjiang )i have been in and out of china several times and never experienced any problems as for passport control i have nothing but praises for them, your mother friend may have have problems with the visa duration? but unlikly they would have detained the departure for this lenght of time its pretty cut and dry come in they stamp your passport and same when you leave is youir mother friend a chinese national? green card holder if US citizen why not cantact the US.Cosulate its right there in guangzhou its very safe to travel to china just make sure you have a valid visa
You need to be specific, why didn't they let the friend go back to China.

If you have trouble, then you can contact the US embassy.
LOL...If you have all your traveling documents in place, passport with valid visa etc, there is usually no problems at all. But let's get one thing straight. In China, they don't favor nor discriminate against foreigners when it comes to crime or politics. If they suspect anything, you are guilty until you are proved innocent. On the other hand, the movies about being locked away, tortured without rights or phone calls are highly exaggerated.

Be careful with a few things when visiting China.
Freedom of expression only applies to a limited extend. Avoid critizing the goverment and it's leaders. Do not carry in foreign published newspaper and magazines. If you have anything to do with journalism, be careful who you talk to and what you publish. Last but not least, contact the local US Embassy for details of your intinery and local customs.
If you have the proper visa and documents there shouldn't be any problems. Just don't do anything illegal or be obnoxious & arrogant to customs. You won't have any problems.

the above comment sounded like a decade ago when China was under the old regime. Now under new policy and Government China is and wonderful place to visit plus the people are great.

Don't think you should have any problem Just don't do anything stupid and have the the US Consulate General telephone numbers handy.
if you obtain your traveling visa, it wont be a problem. part of the reason you would want to get a visa is that it will protect you while you are in a foreign country eventhough you will have to obey their laws. your mother country should also have to protect you as well. they can't do anything to you without the consent of your country that is importance of visa.
you should ask your friend, what is going on
