Why has the UAW become so weak and worthless? My Chevy Equinox Engine is made in China? Why? |
Hello UAW. Are you here? Why do you allow our jobs to go over seas? In my day we would have put the hurt on the auto plants but you "UAW" have become weak and worthless. and you know this is true. maybe the uaw is the reason many auto manufacturing jobs have gone overseas. Car is made in China because of cheap labor. You pays for what you gets. UAW on the otherhand has become weak an ineffective because the union officials are demanding too much from management for their membership. As the union demands go up, management finds a better, or cheaper way to get the job done. In the end everyone loses, the union, the workers, management and the public. Oh yes, but China wins in the long run, because we can't do our jobs anymore. Modified 11 months ago so is every thing else Because it costs less to outsource the work, which then allows the automaker to sidestep the UAW, pay workers less and increase GM profits. I'm sure most of your equinox, as with almost all cars, are made overseas. It's been many, many years since there has been a car entirely made in the US. Used to be that "Buy American" meant something when it came to cars...those days are over. China gets to step around many environmental rules that apply to countries such as America. You will find most anything metal that is drop forged, or force forged like engine parts, and tools, will be made somewhere else now. The horrible pollution to the surrounding country side that results from having a smelter has forced American companies to come up with alternatives for their parts production. Countries like China, and India are considered "new industrial powers", so they have little restrictions on their pollution standards. The United States faces a 60 billion dollar trade deficit this upcoming year, which means we now buy more from other countries, then they buy from us. That is the beginning of the end for "super powers" such as the US. The Automobile industry in China has gone from just under a million privately owned vehicles a decade ago, to over 15 million privately owned vehicles just last year. Many companies like Chevrolet jumped on this new market years ago, and now produce their parts and vehicles there to save costs, and avoid pesky environmental laws. Plus most of the vehicles are staying in China anyways. More Chevrolet's were sold in China last year than in the United States, according to the Department of Commerce. Cheaper labor, no environmental restrictions, and a devalued Chinese currency make for big take home money for Chevrolet. I don't know what UAW is, but as for why the engine is made in China, that's easy - it's cheaper to make it there than in the US. If it bothers you so much vote with your dollars and only buy American products. But be careful you might be shocked what is actually American. Are the shock absorbers in a Harley made in America or Japan? Is the company making them American of Japanese? America has tried to be isolationist for decades but it simply can't avoid the reality of world economics. If you assume the material costs in America and China are identical, the difference must be overhead costs: a person working in China, is low paid (low cost of living), probably has no insurance, national insurance, pension or sickness cover and no unions fighting for improvements. Would you work like that? No? That's why you cost more, that's why engines made in America cost more, that's why Chevrolet get them made in China. Corporations have no loyalty except to the god profit. |
