Last night, I saw a documentary titled: Is Walmart good for America. What do you think? |
After seeing the documentary on television, the main point I got out of it is that while Walmart may be offering consumers lower prices, that they are forcing manufacturers of those good to export jobs to China. So, I guess my real question is, what good is having low priced items if we are losing millions of jobs to China and the only jobs available to Americans are low wage jobs, such as fast food places, or for that matter, a job at Walmart itself. I was left with the final impression that Walmart is helping to destroy America and will end up lowering our standard of living. It is very true. For more information, I highly recommend the book "The Walmart Effect" it goes into detail and isn't boring at all about how Walmart does business and how it affects everyone involved. I hate wal-mart for that purpose. Not to mention that their stuff is junk and it is always overcrowded. Their motto should be: Always crooked, always. htey have played hardball withn a lot of their vendors and forced them to change their entire production process,and in some cases , they have dropped the vendor entirely and manufactured the same product thenselves, wal mart now owns over 400 factories in china ,where they produce their own products,whats even sadder is that many other companies are followinng the wall mart business model and doing the same thing. i am glad i live 1/4 mile from a super target....i go there. We still have the choice to shop somewhere else. Wal-Mart is not destroying America. Americans are. They want good prices...not necessarily good merchandise. If most products were made in America....95% of people couldn't afford them. Take, just for example, electronics. Most made overseas...China these days. Use to be Japan. BUT.... electronics made here in the USA (MarkLevinson, Audio Research, Threshold) only a few people can actually afford them. Children's toys are another...why spend too much when you can get cheap, plastic crap from China REALLY CHEAP... It's the old saying in reverse these days.... Quanity over Quality. In Lloydminister in Canada i don't remeber but it is either they don't have cashiers or are getting rid of them. they have electronic things, you scan your item and pay with your credit card. yep, and i wonder why i am having trouble getting a job. Wal Mart in itself will not destroy the American economy. There are many strong companies who also use foreign services so to say it's JUST Wal Mart isn't feasible. I do believe that it's dangerous for one company to have a monopoly on a specific area. For instance a walmart every 3 miles is a business nightmare for other retail stores. Winn Dixie has been around practically forever and yet it's closed down except for one store here. The same goes for Kmart. They too are suffering walmarts popularity. Even big company's make mistakes and fall too so in the long run who knows if walmart will be around later on. |
