What is the outlook in terms of short to medium term for domestic compressor industry? Safe job at factory?

Will the domestic compressor industry go the way of steel mills with the increase in Indian and Brazillian units? China? Will jobs in plants be safe say 2-9 years from now?

no such thing.

If China or some other country can build them, they probably have the cheapest price and your company could make lots more money if they can cut costs(which is why they are in business-to make money). Companys philosophy is "I don't 'owe' anyone a job"..look out and have a game plan.

I don't have the slightest idea, but I'm guessing that piece of equipment does not wear out easily. China may only build a half dozen or so steel mills.........really, I don't know what I'm talking about.
