Job opportunities for Tool and Die makers?

i'm 18 years old, I live in Ontario, Canada and plan to go to College in a couple of months taking tool and die making courses.
from my understanding, the industry is a bit slow right now because a lot of the factory work is moving to other countries such a China or Mexico so can they save money.
im concerned that after i get my diploma, i wont be able to find a job and make a living. I'm not completely sure of wut its going to be like for me after college.

Does anyone have any inputs with my situation? will i be able to find a job and make a living from it?

I am a Tooling Engineer. many of my friends are working as Tool & Die Makers in Canada. Most of them are doing good. The adavantage of studying tooling is that, you will able to adapt very quickly into most of the mechanical engineering industries, automobile etc.
Some times Tool Makers find it bit difficult to find a perfect job in Tool making industry. But we have a wide variety of opportunities in Designing( http://www.metalstampingdies.com/die-des... ), CAD/CAM ( http://www.metalstampingdies.com/cad/... ), robotics and other related industries. And you can work with manufactures doing plastic moulding, metal stamping, die casting, jigs and fixtures and measuring instruments. I will you definitely able to make a living by learning tool making. Source(s): http://www.metalstampingdies.com...
Hi, well with most industries, its like this. If you can find a job in the wanted ads that will not require 2 years experience, or more in the industry, and then on the brands/models of tools that they are using..If not... then your gonna have to do some ojt for a bit.. or lower paying jobs or lie on your application and hope that you can pull off what you said.

I am in aviation... most places are asking for min of 4 years experience, and then at least 2 or more on the aircraft type that they fly. How can someone come out of Airframe and Power-plant school, and get a job? I came out of the US Army with 4 years of helicopter experience on CH-47, UH-60 and AH 64 A and D models, and who flies them in the civilian world? Well in my area Columbia Helicopters flies something similar to the CH-47... but that is it... Its the same thing in your industry... ITS EVERYWHERE!... AWK! Good luck, and figuring out a career that will be enjoyable for life is difficult. Most are doing 2 or 3 different career changes in their working lifespan now. Due to reasons of getting a better job, or they are under qualified, or now days with the pay being so low, being "over qualified". If i was running my own business, I'd be sure to hirer those that are over qualified for the job to help boost my business.. but that is just the way I would think things out...
