Should we reduce trade with China, start making stuff here, and then grant green cards to some illegals?

So, can we?

Reduce trade with China (change the trade agreements and tax codes so that American business bring manufacturing back)... once we have some of our manufacturing companies back, grant green cards to those who are actually trying to be part of America (not blanket amnesty).

I mean it's a win/win situation for everyone. We get more jobs here, we have higher standards for goods produced, we reduce the threat of China messing with our goods, and the increase in jobs could employ some "illegals" that really do want to be part of our country.

But, I guess it wouldn't work....we wouldn't want to put Americans first. China might get mad.

I would just like to see our country have some independence from China...they are already threatening to cash in U.S. foreign reserves (even though this will bite them in the butt too)

It is a great idea to increase manufactured goods here in the USA. Hopefully we could start exporting more than we import now.

I like that you stated we "could employ some illegals", emphasizing the word "some".

It might work if there was an application process used to select alien individuals that were qualified to do the work they were hired for.

There are many places that recruit alien workers to fill job positions that can't be filled locally. These individuals come in under a work visa that is usually good for two years.

I like the idea of allowing them to work towards some other type of visa that would in turn allow them to apply for citizenship, great idea. But! One of the criteria of this program should be that they learn how to speak the English language!

When I lived on Saipan we recruited our work force from the Philippines. Hired some really good workers and folks that added much to the community. Everyone of them learned how to speak English before they apply for a job. It shouldn't be that difficult for Hispanics to do the same thing.

Grant green cards to how many? That's not really putting America first.

One of the reasons we buy so much foreign produced goods is Americans are more interested in price than quality. Think about it, Nike shoes made in Korea cost $45, if they were made here they would cost about $60. Companies are going to make the same profit margin on a product. They will just pass on the higher cost of business to the consumer.

Many years ago, Wal-Mart used to advertise they sell only American made goods, when possible. They did OK as a company. Then they did away with that and started selling the cheapest they could get, at lower prices, and, the rest is history.
