Do they work the jobs Americans won鈥檛 do?

If American doctors were paid $5.00 an hour they wouldn鈥檛 be working those hospital jobs either. You have to ask yourself if you want illegal immigrant doctors working at minimum wage to perform a by-pass heart surgery on you. Would you like an illegal immigrant lawyer defending you in court for $5.00 an hour? How about a $5.00 an hour illegal immigrant college professor teaching your kids calculus? How about an illegal alien truck driver driving down the road at 70 MPH with 80,000 pounds of steel, no ability to read English and a fifth grade education鈥攆rom Mexico鈥檚 educational system?Meanwhile, profits soar for corporations while the middle class of America plummets into worsening unemployment. Will America drop into Third World conditions as economist Paul Roberts predicts? At the current rate of 3.1 million legal and illegal newcomers imported into the United States annually, it鈥檚 only a matter of time before, we too, manifest conditions of the Third World. You can鈥檛 drown the labor market with millions of people and expect to keep your wages high when immigrants will undercut you.

That鈥檚 why the pay in China or India is less than $10.00 per day. They have 2.4 billion people in those two countries. That鈥檚 why they live subsistence lives. In time, that reality will manifest itself in America as the middle class vanishes. It鈥檚 already happening. You need look no further than California as an example of the first Third World State of America.

Yep. They are putting middle class businesses out of commission. I don't think white collar professionals will be out of jobs, but doctors fees are being stifled by all the people who cannot pay more than the minimum, or get medicaid as a freebie if they are illegals. Who will want to even be a doctor anymore? Not to mention all the free medical care they receive from county hospitals. FL is already a third world state, and CA not far behind.

Sad isn't it? We need to put a stop to it NOW before it gets worse.

I couldn't agree more. I've always fought against that slippery idea that there are certain jobs people won't do. In England it used to be that working on the trains was a bad job. In reality the pay was insulting, so people didn't go for the job.
Every time alternative workers can be hired at the lowest wage, it undermines the ability of people to demand a living wage. It undermines employment and also exploits immigrant workers.
It is part of the age old capitalistic desire to get things done at the lowest cost for the best return.

I think Barbara L's folks got lucky, but some people still can't get good work and would pick fruit if it wasn't for cents. What you say has nothing to do with jobs being underpaid. You live in a fantasy world of rags to riches stories.

get real.. when the news papers, politicians, or any body say immigrants, legal, or not will do the jobs the americans don't want to do, they mean working in the fields picking fruit, vegetables, mowing lawns, truck driving, etc. not surgery, etc. my father was from a "white" family of nine kids. my grandpa was killed in a car wreck. my dad, also two of his brothers quit grade school to help feed the family. my dad worked in the fields picking cotton, fruit, mending fences, what ever he could do. he my friend had a 4th grade education, and worked his way up in the construction business until he was a superintendent. he my friend helped build, put crews together, and made sure the job went as it was supposed to, etc. if you're ever in los angeles california, look at all the high rise buildings. my dad either help build them, or instructed his crew on how to build them. so do not say lack of a formal education makes anyone inferior to others. my dad was in construction for 40 years, had a nice home, cars, motor home, dirt bikes, dune buggies, a boat, and what ever else we needed in life. my feelings from what you have said are, you're a racist, and a political butt.

immigrants have been doing grunt work for more than 60 years and gettin paid peanuts. don't give me this crap that all of a sudden illegal immigrants are lowering wages because since the begining farmers took care of their own farms and when the farm got too big they turned to slave labor. agriculture jobs always have been and always will be cheap labor. bottom line.
