Does China Take Care Of Its People Better Then the USA?

Last year, in the wake of devastating floods in China, the government made a promise to the people that the thousands of homes destroyed would be replaced by February of this year. These were not FEMA type trailers, but regular brick and mortar homes that are common in China. China met that goal.

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, much of New Orleans still lays in ruins consumed by slow payments from FEMA to contractors to court litigation. All while the little guy, who has no power when it comes to getting things done, sits in a FEMA trailer waiting for the government, this is supposed to be for the people, to get off their butts.

New Orleans opened a lot of eyes to the political reality in America of government by the rich. Why people defend it is beyond me. Results matter. There were no votes for Mr. Bush in New Orleans, so he let them go. China built houses. China wins, pure and simple. China is a rising power (3rd world? Funny, I don't think of them as 3rd world) and the US is frightened, hence the endlessly negative reporting of China in the US media. Funny, too, I didn't here of this housing thing on NBC. Is it possible that China is being propagandized as a bad nation, just as France has been, even though 'Sicko' showed them in another light? I think so.

Funny, I recently saw a TV documentary about the Shadow People in China -- approximately 40 million people never received a birth certificate due to the one child policy. These people live on the streets and travel from city to city working part time. Kind of like America I guess, when one considers the 12 to 50 million illegals we have in the country.

Well since there's so many things that a government can do for its people, it's hard to compare country to country.

But under normal circumstances, would people live a normal life? (ie get up every morning and brush their teeth and eat breakfast and get dressed and go to work...)

As far as I observed, most Chinese people do that every morning.

I have friends live in New Orleans, so I did read some news when Katrina hit New Orleans and I was shocked. Nearly 2 years has been pasted.

Dude, I dunno wad to argue with yur statement. I m the chinese in the Malaysia and received hundred of falun gong and one more organization's daily paper ( i forgot it names). The paper stated that the goverment of china is threatening it citizen behind the scence and some officers even abuse the detained person. I dunno wether it is true or not and I do not hate the central goverment but the local officers who abuse their powers. When the central goverment will take strict control and limits thier powers? Takes the recent slave abuse, it has been operating so long till recently discovered by the central goverment thru the voice of the patrents in the internet. The local polices did not raid the turf of this operating kiln but the other province's polices raid these illegal turfs.Why? Because this kiln was protected by the corrupted local goverment and the local polices are on the same boat with this corrupt.Thats why these patrents seek help from other province's polices to sort things out. Why the central goverment did not send their officers to infiltrate the 'problem' area by asking the local residents secrectly wether the local goverment do thier job or lack in thier duties or abusing their powers rather then wait the residents to voice out their angers thru media? Please, pressure your goverment to work hard to banish those corrupted officers. Make China a praised nation by every countries in this world. Peace!

That is comparing apples and oranges.

The US is a capitalist democracy that has a 200+ year history of soverignity and freedoms.

China is a country that has just emerged from the most miserable 200 years in its history. The opium wars, a decaying monarchial system, a fragile republic, a civil war, communism, the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural revolution destroyed China almost completely.

It has only been 30 years sincew opening and reform and China is still a developing country.

The US is the richest country in the world and while it has many of its own problems that need solving its citizens still enjoy one of the richest lifestyles in the world.

A better comparison would be the US vs teh UK, Japan, Germany and other rich industrialized countries.

It also has a population of 1.3 billion as opposed to the US which has 300 million. To try and compare how each country "takes care of its people" is impossible at this point. This question will be easier to answer in 50 years as China grows ecomonically, socially and politically.

Sure, China takes better care of its people than the USA.
Anyone that dares to speak out against the government are usually removed from society...forever.

Of course, the government also looks after the health of its population...just take a look at the pollution levels in that nation...a lot worse than the USA.
