cost of living is quite cheap in China, although China experienced some inflation over the summer, food is cheap and delicious, renting an apartment is a little expensive, if you are a single men, you will have no problem finding a cheap place to live but married with kids it will cost you, unless the company offers housing as well as salary which most companies do for expat packages

Depends on where you stay. It's not cheap if living in big cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong. But of course the costs of living are still below cities like Hongkong, Japan and any other well-known cities in the world. I believe several thousand in RMB or HKD is pretty sufficient, for your information, 1 USD roughly equiv. 7.75 HKD and 1 HKD roughly equiv. 0.96 RMB.
It's worth to have working experience in China as China is a growing country and such experience will good for your career advancement.

There is a 5-star Days Hotel in Chongqing. If you work in Chongqing, the cost of living there is much lower than other Chinese cities.

The rental market is quite expensive in the big cities but the cost of food is cheap. I have an Indian friend living here (China) and he brings hie own food back from India with each visit. Local wages in Shanghai are about 1500 RMB a month but a foreigner could not live on that,
