Did unions cause the steal industry in America to move to China?

I heard the steal industry wanted to modernize their factories but the unions wouldn't let them because people were going to lose their jobs. Now all steal jobs are gone. Why did the unions do this?

however, if you mean the steel industry, high overhead costs have made american steel more costly than other countries.

No, it is industrial GREED. They only think of excessive amounts of money with never a thought to what they (and others) are doing to the health of our country.

This is manure. Corporations are concerned with one thing: profit. They consider "employees" as nothing more than entries in the P&L. Why does non-union Wal_Mart get their suppliers to move their manufacturing facilities to Mexico and China? Lower wages= lower costs= higher profit.

Fighting for a 40 hr work week and overtime after 40 hours, health care benefits, safe working conditions? Why did the unions do this stuff the dirty commie pigs? because it was their jobs they were fighting for.

Wage considerations were part of it. Pollution controls were part of it. Failures of non-modernizing were part of it.

Strong international growth is driving up demand, so hopefully we'll be back in that business some day.
