Which hard-goods sold in USA anymore aren't made in China?

Please, do tell. How many more American jobs will disappear before it's all said and done?

These posts are ignorant and silly. Vastly more American jobs are lost to advances in technology than to Chinese workers. On farms and in factories machines have made it possible for a handful of people to do the work of hundreds. ATM machines replace bank tellers. Voice recognition software replaces phone operators. Self-checkout scanners at Home Depot replace cashiers. And so on...

You probably didn't know this, but the value of U.S. manufactures still surpasses the value of Chinese manufactures. Also, approximately 50% of everything China manufactures is actually owned by foreign (including U.S.) firms operating in China. In the high-tech category that number goes up to 90%. This means that U.S. companies are reaping the profits from producing their goods in China, and U.S. consumers are reaping the benefits of low prices. Low prices paid for Chinese goods leaves more money in U.S. consumers' pockets to spend on U.S.-made goods and services. And all those U.S. pension funds invested in stocks benefit when U.S. companies gain from trade with China.

Not to mention the manufacturing that has migrated to China is the most polluting, environmentally destructive type of manufacturing there is. Believe me, nobody would want to bring any of it back to the U.S. If China weren't there, those "U.S. jobs" would simply go to Honduras, Vietnam, Lithuania or some other low-cost labor market.

Finally, those of you who are so down on "outsourcing" should look up the number of Americans that are employed by foreign companies here in the U.S. Take auto manufacturers, for example. While Ford and GM slash jobs, Japanese and Korean auto manufacturers continue to open factories here, absorbing thousands of American workers.

If you want to b--ch and moan about something, b--ch about the deterioration of the U.S. education system and the failure of our politicians, schools and families to properly prepare young Americans to be world leaders in the high-value, knowledge-intensive activities of R&D, science, technology, medicine, innovation, information services, etc. This is where the money is and where America's comparative advantage lies.

China is simply a scapegoat used by politicians and media pundits to divert attention from our own failings at home. The mindless posts on this thread attest to how gullible some Americans are to believe the anti-China "sound bites" that are completely unsubstantiated by facts.

a ridiculous amount, it's so much cheaper labor over there.

56 year old dino here, my opinion, USA is on the way down the tubes mostly because of this issue and it will be like not brushing your teeth for years and like 10 years too late you suffer.

They already own America with all our debt.

I don't know the answer to this. Unfortunately I don't think anyone does. I do feel very saddened by all the people in this country loosing their homes, medical coverage and all their assets due to the loss of their income. I know people as I sure you do too, that have worked in the industry field for years and retirement within reach only to loose their jobs to the industries moving out. Your talking most of them working on hard concrete floors, breathing in fumes and whatever other particles are floating in the air all while living paycheck to paycheck. What do they have now? They have bankruptcy's and foreclosures on their records. Facing a future of unknown certainty and no available jobs in the area they live in. I can only imagine how hard it would be to get a job that pays decent at the age of close to retirement. I am sure the guys at the top of those industries aren't hurting though. Heck no they have cushions due to the overpayment of salaries through the years. They don't know the true impact on the people as they never have felt it. You know the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Sad! I say bring our jobs back to the people in this country and lets get this economy going again!!! Our priority should be number one! We are the citizens of this country not China.
