For those who worked abroad, what was it like, where did you go? what jobs did you do? please tell me about it

for those who have worked abroad, (or still are)
what was it like,
where did you go?
If non english speaking, how did you find picking up the language?
what jobs did you do?
Was it easy to find work?
how long did you go for?
Did you meet lots of people?
Anything you can tell me about your experiences would be v helpful. I am planning to work abroad you see and I am interested.

I lived and worked in Southern Germany for 10 years, and it was the best lifestyle experience ever. Its clean (spotlessly so), the people are very friendly, good food and drink is a way of life out there, and the forests and mountains are very beautiful. I went out there first off in 1988, not able to speak a word of German. I was lucky enough to work for an English speaking company which helped, but picking up the language is made easier by the fact that most Germans speak English. If you try, they help - and thats how I learned German. Like most however - they find it disrespectful if you assume they will speak English to you. I met lots of people both German, English and American, I married a German and therefore became part of a German family. Finding work is easy, but like most places dependent upon you skill and experience. If you are travelling I would recommend staying where I lived in The Odenwald, a forest region south of Darmstadt. Here there is a large fruit/jam factory called 'Odenwald Konserven' that employs plenty of English speaking post grad travellers and provide accomodation. Best of luck

I'm currently living and working in Ireland.
I'm a computer programmer so most of the jobs are in Dublin.

No problem with language, but the culture, customs and legal stuff takes some getting used to. The tax system is less complicated, the cost of anything imported is more expensive (but as long as you have access to online shops, most of that is avoidable), houses, land and cars are MUCH more expensive than the UK.

Overall, hugely preferable to living in the UK.

.. and I'm never going back to live in the UK

I have worked overseas, i was in australia, tanzania, ,and variouse other places ,"not the eu"i was living in australia many many years, it was good to me ,but i worked hard for that , but saw rsults for my input, i met so many people, and remain friends with them , It was a good learning curve in my life , i wish you good luck ,

I met my Yorkshire wife in Zambia in 1969 we leaved in Africa,Italy, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain,Brunei, Scotland and now we are just off the South coast of Devon.
We had super life everywhere, our children 30 and 32 had a superb child wood and all of us made friend which we still meet and enjoy their company perhaps reminiscing the funny things happened to us.

I am Italian so anywhere i had been I had some amount of difficulty with the language. No problem
I am an Aircraft Engineer and I had worked as such or I have been instructing people..
I have just retired from a senior position with a local Airline.
My wife was a nurse and she worked in Hospitals and sometimes in schools as an assistant.
My daughter now travels the world as a geophysicist. She as taken the expat attitude.

Do it if you can. Don't forget, though, it will finish so you have to make provision for your old age.

I wish you the best of luck you will need that as well.
Usually a good partner helps to get through the rough moments.
