If you were offered a fabulous job for 2-3 years abroad? |
Would you subject your dogs to the plane journey in a crate and living in a strange place (no quarantine)? Would it make any difference what age they were? What if they were your "furkids" - ie you don't have any human children? Sure I would take my dogs. I would also make sure they were up to date on all their shots and had all their meds with me too. Like enough heartworm, and flea & tick meds too. Of course! Yes I would take them with me, I'd never leave them behind. Mind you if I had the chance to make the journey some other way than flying I'd opt for that. Honestly, I wouldn't subject my fuzzy child to the journey being crated for a long period of time. He depends on me for his safety and comfort. I wouldn't want to traumatize him in that way. Just going for a ride in the car is hard on him, he gets car sick. I've heard of horror stories regarding pets being crated on planes. Get your dogs and yourself immunized.... make sure you are up on all your shots... never get an anthrax shot though.. that **** will **** you up. Make sure in fact to actually get the hpv I moved a dog and two rabbits to Switzerland when I got engaged. I most likely wouldn't subject them to a 6 month quarantine like some places have. I think it's cruel to expect an animal to live in solitary confinement for long periods of time.. I have furkids. If I have to take my furkids on a trip (i try to avoid that my parents are great babysitters when they are home). If I have to travel with them I have the Vet prescribe some "animal tranquilizers". I think pets over the age of 10 have trouble taking this medication, hence, try not to travel with your older pets if at all possible. I would rather drive them there if it was possible. Well firstly I would ask myself, do I really want this job, like weigh up the current job with the new job. If I decide I want the new job overseas, then there is NO question that my dogs are coming with me. I really hate these people that say 'Oh we are moving overseas so we have to give our dog away'. I'm like please, dogs can go on planes, it's just an excuse to me. Yeah, I'd definately take my furkid, he's my baby! my frined bought his dog from New York to London, he has all shots and papers etc. His dog (who is very small) came on the plane with him in his own travelling bag, he slept the whole way and was totally fine. Good luck. yes..they will do fine! Take your babies with you I went abroad for 6 months and left my dog with my next door neighbors young adult daughter - she moved into my house. That's an unrealistic option for you and now I would take my dogs with me for 2 - 3 years, both are young. Probably if I had a senior dog in poor health I'd check into the possibility of a family member taking the dog - maybe not, as I'm writing this I wondering if I really would give an old dog up. Pups/dogs travel on planes all the time without any lasting ill effects. Good luck. of course i would take them if it came to the push my animals or my job there would be no contest my animals come first every time. Would not consider this a fantastic job if i had to leave my pets behind No - treat your dogs as man's best friend & dont put them thro the journey or the strange surroundings in a country they may not like. Is it worth risking your dogs happiness, security, well being, ask yourself. If you love them, you perhaps wouldnt want to risk it. LOL, funny that you bring this up... I was having this conversation with my mother the other day. I married a man in the army. We are possibly moving to Germany for a year and a half. I have to decide very soon if I want to make my dog stay in quarantine for 6 weeks going over there and 6 weeks coming back! It's not the flight (I have a crate that I can take on planes - and he loves to fly - he gets so much attention from everyone, he just soaks it up!!) or the new living area that I worry about with him, it's the 12 weeks with other dogs and strangers that I am concerned about. So if there wasnt a quarantine, I would bring him in an instant. But since there is, my mother has offered to take him while we are gone. I lived with her when I first got my pup so this is a very familiar place to him with very loving people. My mom will even take him to work with her so he will almost never have to be left alone at the house. I think this is the best option for me and my wonderful pup... if we are stationed abroad. I would take them with me no question - just thing of the trauma they would go through at loosing you. I am moving to Spain from the UK next week and taking my horse with me. I wish she could understand English so I could explain why she needs to spend the next 4 days going on and off lorries with out me, but at least when she arrives at the other end I will be there to great her. If i had a dog now it would be doing the same journey as it is I have the great pleasure of being able to go shopping for one when I arrive in my new home. |
