I'm in an internship abroad, but I feel like I'm wasting my money.?

I've been at an unpaid internship abroad that I've paid $2400.00 to go to so that I could practice a foreign language simultaneously for two months, and I haven't yet done anything useful.

They just started me on some semi-useful work, because a new girl came in and was put to work right away. I am thoroughly pissed off, and am about to give my boss, who I like very much, an ultimatum. It's nothing personal, but I have a month left here, and damn it, I need something to say about this job during my interview besides "Excel data entry, and makes a good cup of coffee."

I'm doing absolutely NONE of the things that I was told I'd be doing when I went down, and I'm fed up to say the least. Any advice/similar experiences?

No offense, you're abroad. When you come back, although University of Lotsa Money looks really good. Having a semester or equivalent at an internship is a great way to mention why there was a break in your studies in the US.

When an interview comes, you can talk about the differences in office culture in XYZ country - something your next boss will have no clue about. Hell, you can talk about how you saw they resolve a problem in XYZ country and how they went about it.

An internship isn't supposed to be your stepping stone to the Nobel prize; it's a shadowing opportunity. In this case, you're in a foriegn country and most of your counterparts in the US in two years can NEVER say the same.

Grin & bear it. It'll pay off in the long run.

Quitting is easy way out.

You do not get chances you Grab them

Piss your boss by asking and grabbing every possible opportunity around to earn

Or are you expecting some spoon feeding

Cheers!
