Do women's rights advocates support the integration of women in combat jobs in the US military? |
It seems that if women's rights advocates support the lifting of the "glass ceiling" in the promotion of women to higher positions they should support Army women having combat jobs. Also if they would than they could aspire to break the glass ceiling and become the Generals who command all the forces. I am joining the Army with my boyfriend after graduation later this year though to be honest, I would not want to serve in a combat role nor do I want him to serve in that capacity. I'm thinking that we should both serve as truck drivers in the same unit which would be possible according to the recruiter. I recently took the ASVAB and got high scores but he's been a Special Education student since elementary school and he only took a practice test so far (his mom is anti military and won't sign for him to start the process yet cause he's not 18 yet but that's too bad he wants to join with me). The practice test shows he can join Infantry or truck driver plus a few others. They do. The exclusion of women from combat roles means that women cannot hold the highest positions in the military. The president of NOW has spoken out about this, and NOW is lobbying to change it. IDK WHAT DO YOU THINK I AM A ROCKET SCIENTIST????????????? GOSH Most women's rights advocates believe that men and women should have virtually identical responsibilities and opportunities in the military, including at the front. There are some climbing/physical scenarios where men will on average perform better. There are some command/management and repetitive behavior scenarios where women on average will perform better. The differences, though are "in the noise". There is certainly no point in distinguishing on the basis of these small (and contraversial) differences. And by the way, as soon as you have men and women serving side-by-side, all "temptation" arguments go out the window - so homosexuality should not be a constraint either. Yes, I do. I think anyone who qualifies should be able to do so. I am also against the draft for either gender. I am a feminist. Most of the people who are against women in combat are not feminists. So it almost sounds like you'll be going to an FSB unit. Grats. As far as women in a combat capacity, that really depends on the MOS. Fighter Pilot, I can see that. Air Cav, maybe. "Ground pounder", I don't think so. I was in the Infantry and we had men whining like babies from time to time. Truly a sad sight. I can just imagine what a woman in that role would be like. Lol, I wouldn't want to be there. I'm not usually a male chauvinist, but when it comes to combat, yeah, I am. 11H 2/27 INF. Wolfhounds '87-'96 Nec Aspera Terrant scrubs! You have stormsingers ideological rant and you have a combat veterans considered answer. Women do not belong in combat. Some times it becomes necessary to fight; except for women. Airplanes, trucks and absolute desperation time; no other exceptions. Fought in Viet Nam |
