Where are teaching jobs advertised in the US? |
I'm an experienced English primary school teacher and am interested in teaching in the States but don't have a clue where to start looking for job adverts. I know how to apply for a temporary green card once I find a job, but where are they advertised? I have done quite a bit of legwork on this issue, and have not had much success in finding out how someone who is not a US citizen might get a teaching job, even though I understand there is a shortage of teachers. So far I have found out that you have to find a school district that is willing to sponsor you. I have contacted many districts, and quite a few reply, but so far I have not found one that sponsors someone who is not a US citizen. If your country of origin makes you eligible for the green card lottery you may be successful that way. I am not eligible since I am Canadian. Do a state by state search for school districts and begin making contacts. Also begin to check out teacher certification in the state you are interested in as requirements can vary. As far as I can understand, some states accept the credentials of other states and some do not. Not all international credentials are accepted so you also need to check that out. You will have to write some exams in order to become qualified in any case. YOu can find sample exams in all the different areas on line. I have included some sites that may be helpful to you. The best way is to check out the county of where you want to teach. like if you want to teach in Fulton County Georgia you would go to the Fulton Department of Education website and check out the employment links.
