Potty training with both of us having full time jobs??

Me again, well me and my husband work 8 hours a day and have a 5 month old bulldog who we are attempting to potty train. when we are there with him and when we take him out regularly its not a problem but we are both basically gone from about 7 to 6. My husband is able to come home for lunch so that he can spend time with our little guy and take him out to play, but how can we effectively train him if we are not able to be there all day taking him out? we need to get him potty trained asap so any advice will help.

My boyfriend and I live together and both work full time jobs as well. We have a puppy (5 months old) and a 1.5 year old dachshund (who is quite possibly the most stubborn dog to housebreak). We have found that having a dog-walker during the day helps a ton. The crate never worked for my dachshund since he peed in it no matter what. He will sleep in his own pee he's so stubborn! What seems to work for us is a walk when we wake up (630am), then we feed and water the dogs. We have baby-gated them in the kichen area so they have space to run around but not are not free to pee/poop all over the house. The dog walker comes at lunch and takes them for a half hour walk or so and picks up the food and limits water (thus, limiting afternoon accidents). They go back into the kitchen and are walked again as soon as one of us gets home from work. One more walk in the late evening and one more before bed seems to work. You have to be CONSISTENT with the schedule. Getting a dog-walker was the key for us. We still have an occasional accident (like when they get really excited) but for the most part, dog walker, routine and limiting food/water at certain times has worked the best for us. Hope it helps. PS- The dog walker is great and makes us feel so much better about not being home during the day! Source(s): Personal experience
start with a crate, he shoudnt want to pee or poop in it, he should learn control that way. also if you can put a doggie door in back room, laundry or so. that way he knows he can go out whenever he wants, but can get back in so he wont get to hot or cold.
The bad news is you will probably have to use a crate for training. It should have been done right away. The dog goes into the crate (large one please) and has food and water. He comes out at lunch and after you get home. Dogs do not want to mess their sleeping areas that is why this works. It is hard to leave him locked up all day but this is what works. They catch on real fast that when they get trained they can leave this space. Gradually you can let them loose.
If you have a yard it is easier with a doggie door. But I suggest don't miss the crating as you dog will use the house. If you dog has already relieved in the home you need to clean it real well with special solution to get the scent out or they are drawn back to use that spot again.
You need to spend time with your dog or get someone else to help. Do you have a friend or parent who can check in?
we put our dog in a kennel during the day when we are gone a dog wont go to the bathroom where they sleep.
A dog should be able to hold their bladder for about 4 hours plus an hour for every year they are old. With telong stretch in the afternoon it is just going to take time to get his bladder trained. Try limiting the water intake in the morning before you leave for work.
When you take him out use a leash and take him to THE SPOT where he always goes and when he gets side tracked tug on the leash. Try with his food when you get up in the morning put the food where he can eat it leave it their for 20 min then put it up and right before you go take him out and make sure he goes and the same at lunch time and at night take is food away from him 2 hours before you go to bed and then take him out 30 to 60 min after he eats. After he drinks plays sleeps make sure you take him out because puppies cant hold it for very long at about 6 to 7 months he will start being able to hold it things just take time.
