I heard that US military vets are exempt from taking civil service exams for jobs in Michigan. Is this true? No, you still have to take & pass the exam but you do get points/extra credit for service in the military. Usually when you complete the application for the exam you'll see a portion referring to military service for you to complete and on the exam there'll be a check box for it. It's not a huge difference but can boost your score to put you at the top of the list for positions if you've already gotten a high score, and can make a difference if you're borderline pass/fail. But for the most part your success with the test still depends upon your abilities to pass it. I believe it's designed to give the Military vets an additional boost in getting the first shot at positions when the list of people who've passed comes out. (IE. I might bet 100 on the test, and you might get the same and then with the bonus points your score will be 115 so your name will be at the top of the list followed by mine, etc... )SO when a governmental agency uses this list to call for interviews they'll start with your name. There is a list of benifits that different states offer at the source listed below and exemption from civil service exams was not listed. Some employment benifit of MI: Reemployment/retention rights, professional and occupational status preserved while veteran is in service/Reinstatement rights, preference points on the exam up to 15 pts for war vets for county civil service. http://www.cga.ct.gov/2002/olrdata/ps/rp... |
