Where will all of the manual labor jobs go and what will be the impact to the US economy long term?

American factories are closing constantly. Workers are being let go by the thousands. I understand the whole deal with cheaper labor overseas and increased profits, bla bla bla. But what about the *people* that are impacted here? Aren't there negative results from taking or dramatically reducing incomes for middle class families? Unemployment costs, medicare/medicaid increases, even crime increases. What are these people going to do? We can't expect every kid coming out of high school to go to college and become an office worker. What are the options for these folks? WalMart? Other retail work? There's no way you can support a family on minimum wage and limited benefits. I'm concerned for this growing class of workers. Not to mention all of the immigrants (legal or otherwise) that are willing to work for peanuts in order to get the American education/benefits for their kids. The coming generations are in deep trouble...

I saw something on TV that will change all this global economy stuff. Some experts in the oil industry predict that by the year 2016, oil stores will be so low worldwide that there will be major gasoline shortages.

People in China have more disposable income (due to importation of goods to the US and jobs exported there ).They use this income to buy consumer goods such as cars and gasoline .They are going to be using possibly more gasoline that the US is shortly.

The experts predict long lines at the pump, sky high gasoline prices and rationing.

Truckers will be laid off due to the high price of trucking goods across the US. (Imagine all the food stuffs that eastern states receive from Calif, Fla, etc...and South America , etc. by boat) . Milk may be shipped as powdered milk to save shipping costs. We live far away from the Walmarts and Meijers (most of us). Will the mom and pop stores return, near to people's homes. Groceries prices will skyrocket. This will affect the global shipping economy also. Cheap goods will no longer be cheap to ship from China, etc.It wil not be profitable to have the industries in other countries.

In the US , we often drive long distances to work. How will high gas prices and lack of gas affect this? Will we be working closer to home and shopping closer to home?SUVs will be impossible to sell for those who own them.

This is only about 9 years away!!!!The experts agree that no one wants to hear about this in the US or elsewhere....if no one can come up with an alternative, then the whole world will be basically in the same boat!!!

The only good thing in this will be all the millionaires who leeched off the middle and lower classes without a care to those employees who helped them get there will take a financial dive, but so will we all??
If you are so concerned for these people...then what's your plan to take care of them? Where's your manufacturing plant that you want to operate at a loss so that they can keep their jobs.

Bla bla bla indeed!

American is the home of the brave and land of the free. Not place of eternal employment at the detriment of the greater good.

We aren't a country known for the soft touch. Get used to it. Get a good education and get to work.

Everyone (who is an adult) has been being told for 3 decades that manufacturing was going to be nonexistant by now. Here we are, the future is here.
