The youth in France want to work, and the government is lame. What is keeping American entrepreneurs from going there and making a fortune with French employees?
First of all, the big issue is how the French laws treat employers. It is incredibly expensive to do business in France due to taxes, employee benefits, and the like. For example, a new employee is entitled to a minimum of 5 weeks vacation to start. Also, the cost to an employer is about 2x what he or she must pay an employee. So, for example, if an employee makes 1000 Euros per week, an employer must pay about 2000 Euros per week to the government for things like Securite Sociale and the like. Also, if you hire someone, it is almost impossible to fire them, even if they are incompetent.
If I were an American employer, I could think of many other places that I would rather do business than France. Until the French people allow their economic laws and regulations to change, France will continue to be a terrible place to start a business. |
